Estoril is an upmarket and cosmopolitan resort with sandy beaches, excellent hotels, a selection of golf courses and a vibrant atmosphere. Developed as an international tourist centre in the early 20th century, this small locality manages to retain its traditional charms while still offering a modern array of conveniences.

There are many sport and water activities for children, in addition, children will enjoy the capital’s parks and gardens, or Monsanto, the city’s forest where kids can play in the amusements of the Park of Indios. A visit to Lisbon Zoo or the ‘Oceanarium’ are some of the other great choices.


Bacalhau (dried cod) is cooked in over 100 different ways – bacalhau à Gomes (cod casserole with potatoes and onions) and bacalhau com natas (cod baked with cream) are two popular incarnations. Local wines and Porto are also highlights of Portuguese delicacies.

The Casino of Estoril is the main reference in the Estoril night, with live shows, gambling, a jazz cafe and more. The Tamariz Club also also attracts guests from even Lisbon. In addition, Lisbon nightlife is available just a short train trip away.

Shopping is limited in Estoril, mainly confined to mini-market grocers serving the locals with a few craft shops and vendors along the beachfront
