Hvar

One of the most popular destinations in Croatia, Hvar is a cosmopolitan and historic town with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafes.

To the south of Brac lies the island of Hvar, the longest island in the Adriatic and one famed for its lavender-scented air, olive groves and vineyards – which produce 47 varieties of wine – all surrounded by warm inviting waters. This picturesque island holds the record for the greatest number of sunny days per year and has many beautiful beaches and isolated coves. Known as the “Madeira of the Adriatic”, The New York Times proclaimed Hvar one of the top 12 world destinations in 2008. Hvar Town is a charming idyll that has preserved many of its impressive Venetian buildings from the time when it was a strategic staging post along the trade routes to Constantinople in the East. Built of beautiful white stone, among its nightlights are the oldest community theatre (founded in 1612) in Europe, a Renaissance cathedral & several late Gothic buildings. A lively town with plenty of shops, bars & restaurants.
